The Wine Auction
21st Annual Wine Auction proceeds to support a new Center for Spine and Spinal Cord Injury
More than 200,000 individuals in the United States have spinal cord injuries (SCI), and every year, approximately 10,000 more sustain one from falls or from vehicle, sports or work accidents. The last decade also saw an increase of military personnel receiving SCI during combat. Slightly more than half of all SCI result in quadriplegia. SCI can be devastating for patients and their families, and such injuries require intense, complex and long-term treatment. Yet most hospitals are not equipped to offer the highest level of care.
In order to improve the outcomes of adults and children who sustain SCI as well as spine fractures, spine dislocations or spine tumors, 2010 Wine Auction proceeds will help Regions establish a new Center for Spine and Spinal Cord Injury, making it the provider of choice in the Upper Midwest for all care associated with these injuries and illnesses. The new center will improve the collaboration between the medical, surgical and rehabilitation teams that provide care to such patients; encourage the development of new models of care through advanced research and data tracking; and create extensive educational programs for patients and their families. These efforts will support the hospital as it seeks a Spinal Cord System of Care designation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, making Regions the only Level I Trauma Center designee in the metro area.
Every year, The Wine Auction hosts almost 1,000 community members for an evening filled with fine wine and food, music and socializing, and silent and live auctions, all for worthwhile causes. As Minnesota's first wine auction, Regions Hospital Foundation's Wine Auction has raised over $5.2 million for patient care, research and education. We hope you are able to join us on October 23.
