Our Exceptional Staff
Caring and experienced physicians, certified nurse-midwives, specially trained nurses and
certified lactation consultants
are here to provide you with prenatal and maternity care throughout your pregnancy and delivery. Our staff prides themselves on providing quality care tailored to fit your individual needs.
We recognize that developing a trusting and supportive relationship with your health care provider is very important to you. Early in your pregnancy, you will decide whether you want your baby delivered by a physician or by a certified nurse-midwife. Whatever your choice, you can be confident that you and your baby will receive excellent care in a supportive atmosphere.
Physicians/Resident Physicians
The Regions Hospital Birth Center has physicians in both Ob/Gyn and Family Practice who deliver babies. The physicians are board certified, which means they have received advanced medical education and training in maternity care. Our physicians understand that you want to play a part in developing your birthing plan and they will work with you to provide the best possible birth for you and your baby.
Because of our commitment to training the next generation of physicians, our Ob/Gyn department participates in a residency training program. We are affiliated with the University of Minnesota Medical School, a nationally-recognized leader in medical training. While your care will always be led by a staff physician who will see you regularly, a carefully supervised resident may also be part of the team which cares for you and your baby.
Certified Nurse-Midwives
Our certified nurse-midwives are educated in two disciplines-nursing and midwifery. One of the largest groups of certified nurse-midwives in the Twin Cities practice at Regions Hospital. You have the choice of being seen by our nurse-midwives throughout your pregnancy-from prenatal care through delivery.
A certified nurse-midwife offers many services to expectant mothers, including:
- Prenatal health care
- Educational support on pregancy, nutrition, exercise, childbirth and parenting
- Labor and delivery care
- Postpartum care
- Instruction on breastfeeding and infant nutrition
- Newborn care
- Well-woman gynecological exams, including pap smears
- Counseling on family planning methods
- Prescriptions for birth control methods
Nurses
Our specially trained nurses will care for you and your baby around the clock during your stay. Our nurses can answer questions, provide for your medical needs and consult with your physician or nurse-midwife. They will also orient you to the maternity area and introduce you to other staff who will care for you and your baby.
