Our Services
Accommodations for Family and Visitors
We know how important it is to have loved ones around to help in the healing process. We have comfortable waiting rooms, as well as a play area for children and an outdoor patio. Each family receives a resource guide called A Family Book. The book includes information on outside accommodations, support services, home health care and general burn care. We also offer short-term sleeping rooms for families, if needed. The
Guest Services staff can also help in locating hospital and community services.
Support Services for Adults and Children
Burn injuries can be traumatic for patients, their family and visitors. We offer counseling to help families discuss the emotional impact of these injuries. We do personalized discharge planning so we can address your questions and concerns before you go home. A chaplain or spiritual advisor is also available.
A child-life specialist is available to help children cope with the emotional trauma associated with burns. Play therapy and a school reentry program are also available.
Rehabilitative and Follow-up Services
Burn injuries can require extensive rehabilitation. Our on-site services begin almost immediately to help our patients return home as quickly as possible. All rehabilitation activities take place within the Burn Center and are exclusively for Burn Center patients. Internationally known for using creative techniques and technologies, our rehabilitation team includes a physiatrist (a physician specializing in restoring function and range of motion to injured parts of the body), physical therapists and occupational therapists who are dedicated to treating burn injuries.
After leaving the hospital, you may require follow-up care. We provide many services that help you continue to recover from your burn injury. Some of those services include checking on your progress,
wound care,
changing bandages, rehabilitation and refitting
face masks.
Summer Burn Camp
Family Burn Camp
The Mahtomedi Family Burn Camp brings families together who are facing similar changes and challenges. It is held in conjunction with the YMCA Camp du Nord Family Camp in Ely, Minnesota. Family Burn Camp features morning age groups (children to adults) with fun activities. Family Burn Camp also offers educational sessions for parents, siblings and burn survivors. It gives each family member a chance to rest, relax and meet other people their same age experiencing similar issues. The week includes many activities such as hiking, canoeing, swimming, sailing, kayaking, crafts, nature programs and much more.
For more information about the Mahtomedi Family Burn Camp, please call Patti Cole of the Regions Hospital Burn Center at (651) 254-1806.
The Cheley/Children's Hospital Burn Camp
During the third week of August each year, the Regions Hospital Burn Center sponsors children between ages eight and 18 who have been hospitalized at our burn center to attend Cheley Camp in Estes Park, Colorado. Because all children who attend this camp have experienced a burn injury, campers meet and socialize with kids just like themselves. This camp was established in 1983.
Children experience many outdoor activities including swimming, horseback riding, climbing, fishing and many others. They also gain valuable social living skills that help them cope with their injuries and with life after being burned.
Campers are accompanied by staff from the Regions Hospital Burn Center. Cheley Camp is staffed by their own personnel. Campers are also supported by staff members from Children's Hospital of Denver Burn Unit.
For more information on The Cheley/Children's Hospital Burn Camp, please call Patti Cole of the Regions Hospital Burn Center at (651) 254-1806.
