Regions Hospital adds additional floor to expansion project
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Regions Hospital today announced it will add an 11th floor to its expansion project, currently under construction. The additional floor translates to an extra 36 beds, bringing the hospitals total potential capacity in the new section to 216 beds when completed.
"Given how well the project has been managed by our contractor, Kraus Anderson, the capital funds are available," said Brock Nelson, president and CEO of Regions, noting that the 11th floor was an option in the original planning. "It makes sense to add the additional floor now, given how much more expensive and disruptive it would be in the future."
The additional floor will not delay the opening of the $179 million expansion project. In addition to three floors of private patient rooms that will open in fall 2009, the project includes 20 new operating rooms, an expanded and upgraded emergency center, two levels of underground parking and improved behavioral health facilities within the existing facility, including 16 additional inpatient behavioral health beds. The top three floors of the new south section will remain unfinished for several years.
