Expansion will double size of The Heart Center at Regions Hospital
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Construction is underway to expand The Heart Center at Regions Hospital, nearly doubling the size of the six-year-old location. When completed in June, the space will include new patient exam and procedure rooms, improved privacy for inpatients waiting for procedures and a dedicated patient education room.
The $2.1 million project also will provide expanded space to integrate clinical staff, including cardiovascular surgery, which will move from its current location on 2 North.
"The expanded space for the Heart Center complements the hospital's Expansion 2009 project by integrating our cardiovascular services into one location," said William Nelson, M.D., Ph.D., department head of cardiology for HealthPartners Medical Group and medical director of Regions Heart Center. "Every year we are caring for more and more heart patients. Creating a destination location for our patients improves efficiency and supports our quality improvement programs."
Much of the space being remodeled formally housed the Digestive Care Center, which opened its new location at the HealthPartners Specialty Center 435 last year. The Digestive Care Center continues to provide inpatient and some outpatient services at Regions in a smaller area on 2 North.
