Ancker Nurses from Classes of 1933-1976 to Reminisce at Reunion
St. Paul, Minn., - St. Paul's Ancker School of Nursing may have closed its doors 32 years ago, but the nurses who obtained their nursing "diploma" there still have a lot of fond memories to share about school and their early careers. The Arthur B. Ancker School of Nursing (originally called Training School for Nurses) was established in 1891 and trained nurses until 1976. Absent from modern-day nursing schools are the monthly weigh-ins for nursing students, classes taught by physicians and rules stating students could not be married. The school did not even admit male students until 1968. Most all of the graduates subsequently worked at Ancker Hospital, which later moved and became Ramsey Medical Center, and then Regions Hospital.
