Interpreter Services
Regions Hospital has employed Sign language interpreters since 1975. The Health and Wellness interpreters are certified and highly experienced in working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals who have a variety of language needs. They have 100 years of collective experience interpreting in medical and mental health care as well as in other human services relations. Their duties include interpreting, advocacy, support, education, translation of materials, resource development, training and inservices, consultation, referral and outreach services.
Sign language interpreting services are available within Regions Hospital for medical and psychiatric inpatients and outpatients, as well as 24 hours a day in the Emergency Center. Interpreters are on-call evenings and weekends for emergencies. Patients are asked to contact the Emergency Center when they have urgent medical questions or to let the Emergency Center staff know they will be coming in.

Deaf and Hard of Hearing people can schedule medical appointments by calling the Regions Hospital general number: (651) 254-3456 through the Message Relay Service at "711" or 1-800-627-3529 and asking for the specific medical clinic's appointment desk, or by calling the interpreters' office at HWP. Those numbers are: (651) 254-3761 TTY or (651) 254-2714 Voice.
Regions Hospital also provides inpatients with specialized equipment such as TTY's, volume control phones and televisions with decoders.
