The Breast Health Center at Regions Hospital is dedicated to improving breast health for all women. We have the latest in diagnostic technology and treatment therapies, yet we go far beyond that. Our Breast Health Center focuses on health, healing and hope, not just disease. Our prevention and breast health education services help our patients lead healthier, happier lives. And our comprehensive range of services meet a woman's physical and emotional needs. Unlike other hospitals, most of our services are in one location, on one floor - making it easier for our patients.

For patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer, the Breast Health Center provides safe and effective treatment options. And, because we are a nationally recognized research and teaching hospital, our patients can be assured that our medical professionals are current in the latest treatment options and take part in many clinical trials of promising new surgical procedures and drug therapies. Our on-site services include:

What's New

Breast MRI Biopsy
In 2008, the Breast Health Center introduced MRI-guided breast biopsy technology. MRI biopsy is performed for lesions found on MRI that cannot be seen through ultrasound or mammography. Use of the technology allows doctors to more accurately target suspicious areas and obtain better samples. The procedure is less invasive than surgical biopsy, causes less tissue damage, leaves little or no scarring and can be performed in less than an hour. For lesions that can be seen through ultrasound and mammography, stereotactic and ultrasound biopsy are still the preferred testing method.

Digital Mammography
The Breast Health Center at Regions Hospital has recently upgraded its traditional film-screen mammography units to digital. While film-screen images provide excellent images of the breasts, the primary advantage to digital mammography is that it detects cancer in very dense breasts slightly more frequently than traditional film-screen mammograms. The Breast Health Center at Regions Hospital is at the national forefront of using the new digital technology; 90 percent of mammography units nationwide still use film-screen images.
