The burn center team

The Burn Center is the part of a hospital where people who have been burned receive treatment.

The physician or surgeon
The burn surgeon is the team leader. He or she gets help from the other medical specialists and staff as needed. The burn surgeon coordinates with the other team members to ensure all the patients' needs are met. The surgeon is involved in all aspects of care, from admission through recovery. They decide if surgery is necessary, and performs surgery when needed.

The Burn Center team includes:

  • Burn service representative
  • Chaplain (spiritual)
  • Child life specialist (an expert in child development and activity)
  • Dietitian (nutrition or food specialist)
  • Housekeepers (cleaning)
  • Internist (internal organ doctors)
  • Nurses (medical caregiver)
  • Nurse aides (medical caregiver)
  • Occupational therapist (exercise and rehabilitation specialist)
  • Ophthalmologist (eye doctor)
  • Pediatrician (children's doctor)
  • Physical therapist (exercise and rehabilitation specialist)
  • Physiatrist (rehabilitation doctor)
  • Pulmonary specialist (lung doctor)
  • Psychiatrist (behavioral health doctor)
  • Respiratory therapist (lung and breathing specialist)
