Regions Hospital Foundation's 2008 Wine Auction to Benefit the New Center for Dementia and Alzheimer's Care

The Wine Auction is the first and longest running live wine auction in Minnesota. The annual event, now in its 19th year, has raised $4 million for patient care, research and education at Regions Hospital. The Wine Auction raised more than $650,000 in 2007 alone.

The 2008 Wine Auction will benefit a new Center for Dementia and Alzheimer's Care. With a rapidly aging population, the health care industry needs to improve the way it cares for patients with dementia. Across the nation, people with Alzheimer's are five times more likely to be admitted to hospitals and nursing homes and are admitted for much longer stays. Many of these patients would have shorter hospital stays or may not need admission if they had access to good continuum of care and outpatient care management.

To help patients and families better cope with this devastating illness, the Center for Dementia and Alzheimer's Care will enhance the inpatient and outpatient care provided across Regions and HealthPartners clinics so that care givers can provide earlier detection, prevent unnecessary hospitalizations and improve care during hospitalization. The Center will also allow the hospital to augment the groundbreaking research currently conducted by the Alzheimer's Research Center, located in Regions. The Center for Dementia and Alzheimer's Care will make Regions the area's provider of choice for patient-centered dementia care.

The Wine Auction hosts nearly 1,000 business and community leaders for an evening filled with fine wine and food, music and socializing, and silent and live auctions, all for a very worthwhile cause!
