June 15, 2005 Mark Larkins, M.D., to lead Regions neurosurgery program St. Paul, Minn., -- One of the Twin Cities leading neurosurgeons has been named to coordinate the elective and neurotrauma program at Regions Hospital. Mark Larkins, M.D., recently joined the HealthPartners Medical Group. He will lead a multidisciplinary program that cares for patients at both Regions and the HealthPartners Specialty Center, which will open in fall 2005. Prior to joining HealthPartners and Regions, Dr. Larkins served as chief of neurosurgery for Park Nicollet Health Services. While part of the neurosurgery group at Park Nicollet, he pushed for modernization of the department, including the addition of evoked potential monitoring and frameless stereotactic neurosurgery. Before joining Park Nicollet, he worked in private practice at a Level I trauma center in Dayton, Ohio. Dr. Larkins' current practice focuses on adult, spine and intracranial surgery. His interests include cranial nerve/skull base surgery, brain and spinal cord tumors, Chiari malformation and surgery of the cervical spine. Dr. Larkins completed his neurosurgical residency at the Cleveland Clinic Foundationhis work in neurotrauma at Allegheny General Hospital was a key part of his training. He also spent a year on cranial nerve surgery and skull base surgery at the University of Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine.
