Regions Hospital Emergency Medical Services and the St. Paul Fire Department joint national CPR research study begins Monday, Oct. 3
St. Paul, Minn.,- Beginning on Monday anyone age 18 or older that experiences non-traumatic cardiac arrest within the city limits of St. Paul will become part of a national research study.

All non-traumatic cardiac arrest patients will receive cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), the current standard of care. Some people will also be treated with CPR and one or two of the investigational devices called the ResQPOD and the ResQPump.

The study will compare the effectiveness of standard CPR to the effectiveness of standard CPR coupled with the ResQPOD, or the ResQPOD in tandem with the ResQPump to determine if one or both devices improve survival rates and brain recovery in people experiencing cardiac arrest.
