Regions Hospital cardiovascular surgeon assists at scene of car accident
St. Paul, Minn., - Jay Shake, M.D., a Regions Hospital cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon and member of HealthPartners Medical Group resuscitated a young victim of a Woodbury car accident early this morning.

Dr. Shake was on his way out of town when the accident occurred this morning.

Dr. Shake joined Regions cardiovascular and thoracic surgery team about two years ago. He attended the University of Minnesota Medical School and later went on to Johns Hopkins Hospital for his residency in surgery and fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery. He also underwent a visiting fellowship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

Dr. Shake has received multiple honorable mentions and scholarships, including the Minnesota Medical Foundation Centennial Scholarship, Academic Honors, and research awards in pharmaceutical preconditioning from the Thoracic Surgery Directors Association and the George D. Zuidema Surgical Residents in stem cell implantation. Dr. Shake currently holds membership at the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Chest Physicians and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
