For the second straight year, Regions Hospital has been named one of the nation's top 100 hospitals for cardiovascular care by Thomson Reuters. The annual study examines the performance of hospitals nationwide by analyzing clinical outcomes for patients diagnosed with heart failure and heart attacks and those who received heart surgery and angioplasties. Regions is one of only seven Minnesota hospitals to make the top 100 list.

Regions has also been recognized by the American Stroke and Heart Associations for it success in treating stroke patients by receiving the Silver Performance Achievement Award.

Over the past year alone, Regions has been awarded some of the nation's most prestigious honors by independent organizations that measure and rank healthcare, including the Joint Commission.

Heart disease doesn't just affect the elderly or strike only men. People of every age and stage in life need to be concerned with their heart health!

Common heart disease risk factors include:

- genetics (family history of heart disease)
- smoking
- being overweight
- physical inactivity
- high blood pressure
- high blood cholesterol
- diabetes
- unhealthy diet
- stress
- older age (55+)

If you have two or more of these risk factors, consult with your physician.

Signs of a Heart Attack
Here are just a few of the common signs of a heart attack. If you feel you may be experiencing these symptoms, call 9-1-1 immediately! Every minute counts!

- Chest discomfort
- Discomfort in other areas of the upper body, such as one or both arms, the back, neck, jaw or stomach
- Shortness of breath
- Other signs may include breaking out in a cold sweat, nausea or lightheadedness

Signs of a Stroke
Here are just a few of the common signs of a stroke. If you feel you may be experiencing some of these symptoms, please call 9-1-1 immediately! It is important to receive treatment within three hours to avoid permanent damage.

- Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
- Sudden loss of vision or double vision
- Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
- Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
- Sudden severe headache with no known cause
