May 20, 2008 Regions outscores others on government's HospitalCompare website Hospital rankings featured Wednesday in national ad campaign ST. PAUL, Minn. - Regions Hospital outscores other comparable east metro hospitals in key measures of patient satisfaction and quality, according to the federal government's HospitalCompare website. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is planning to run ads in newspapers across the country on Wednesday to draw attention to the site. The ads will highlight two key quality scores for: patient satisfaction (percentage of patients who always receive help when they request it); and quality (percentage of patients receiving an antibiotic one hour before surgery). More detailed information on the government's HospitalCompare website is available at www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov. Users can compare up to three hospitals at a time in more than 30 areas, including how patients rate hospitals in areas such as communication with doctors and nurses or the cleanliness of their room. "Improving clinical quality and the experience of our patients is something we are constantly working on. We always aim to exceed their expectations," said Gretchen Leiterman, vice president of quality for Regions. "This website validates our strengths and points to areas where we can improve. It also provides consumers information they need to choose the best hospital." Other national quality-rating organizations have recognized Regions recently. In addition to a five-star rating in stroke, cardiac and critical care in the 2008 HealthGrades Hospital Quality in America Study, Regions was named one of the nation's top 100 cardiovascular hospitals by Thomson Healthcare. The Joint Commission also reports Regions as a top performer across the country in several key heart care measures. Regions Hospital is a Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital serving Minnesota and western Wisconsin for more than 130 years. Regions is a private, non-profit hospital providing outstanding care in women's health, heart, cancer, surgery, orthopaedics, neuroscience, burn, emergency care and more.
