And just this month, Regions has treated a handful of elderly patients due to respiratory difficulties related to the heat. People who have chronic obstructive pulmonary disease such as bronchitis or emphysema may experience difficulty breathing in extremely warm weather. Other common symptoms that bring people to the emergency department are exhaustion, a quick heart rate, dizziness and the feeling they are about to faint.
