Getting stroke patients to the hosptial quickly is vital. Make sure you know the most common stroke warning signs:

• Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm, or leg, especially on one side of the body
• Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
• Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
• Sudden severe headache with no known cause
• Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes

Not all these warning signs occur in every attack. If you suspect a problem - don't delay. Call 9-1-1 and get to a facility that can help you as quickly as possible. Every minute counts.

Regions Hospital Receives the Silver Performance Award for Stroke Care - September 2008

The Regions Hospital stroke program has recently been awarded Silver Performance Achievement Award by the American Stroke Association. This level of achievement is awarded only to hospitals following the Stroke Associations Get with the Guidelines processes on patient care. With this achievement, patients can be ensured the hospital follows strict guidelines, benchmarks performance against national standards and provides timely and effective acute stroke care. The American Stroke Association has evaluated Regions stroke program based on seven specific performance measures aimed to improve acute stroke treatment and preventing secondary events.
