This service provides Deaf and Hard of Hearing people with short-term psychiatric evaluation and treatment.

Persons needing this service are mainstreamed with hearing patients on units utilizing sign language interpreters.

Hospitalization averages one to two weeks and includes:

  • Group psychotherapy
  • Medication therapy
  • Individual and family counseling
  • Crisis intervention
  • Occupational and recreational therapy
  • Behavior management
Consultations with medical departments are occasionally needed, including audiological, speech and language, neurological and ophthalmological evaluations.

The goal of this service is to return the Deaf or Hard of Hearing person to an appropriate community living environment at his/her optimal level of functioning, and to provide the appropriate level of aftercare services.
