Complementary Care Services: Therapies, Support Groups and Education
Our Complementary Care services are dedicated to the recovery and healing of the whole person - mind, body and spirit. They are designed to reduce your discomfort, educate your mind, and to restore your sense of well-being. Our services are offered in conjuction with the medical or oncology services you already receive and are free or offered for a small fee. Support Groups
Our support groups are facilitated by health care professionals and survivors. No registration is necessary.

Family and Friends
By Their Side...for family and friends of someone with cancer. This support group offers a range of topics and time for discussion. Held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 pm in the Cancer Care Center.

Breast Cancer
Taking Charge...for women recently diagnosed with breast cancer, their families and friends. Held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from 6-7:30 pm at the HealthPartners Specialty Center - 401 Phalen Boulevard in St. Paul.

Education and Classes

Complementary Care and Cancer...a one-time free course for patients and their families. It provides information and resources about the most effective complementary therapies, an introduction to the programs's healing modalities, and an opportunity to experience and learn several relaxation techniques. Registration is necessary.

Holistic Health and Education Series...courses are offered throughout the year. Topics include: supplements and nutrition to treat and prevent cancer; mind-body skills to reduce stress and strengthen your immune system; and spirituality and cancer. Registration is necessary

Look Good...Feel Better...A joint effort between the American Cancer Society, the National Cosmetology Association and the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association Foundation. This free program teaches beauty techniques to hlep combat the appearance-related side-effects of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Evening sessions are held several times each year.

The Patricia D. Lundborg Cancer Library
One of the only libraries in the Twin Cities dedicated exclusively to cancer topics, the Lundborg Cancer library is open to patients, their families and the community. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 am - 5 pm in the Cancer Care Center. The library provides:
  • Hundreds of easy to access books and videos with up-to-date cancer-related information that can be checked out.
  • A variety of relaxation videos and DVDs are shown daily on a plasma television. Patients are welcome to come in to watch these while waiting for their appointments. A wide selection of DVDs and portable DVD players are also available to use during chemotherapy.
  • The library's web site offers links to the most common cancer-related advances and information.
