Sixteenth Annual Wine Auction to Raise Money for New Patient Care Technology at Regions Hospital
St. Paul, Minn., Regions Hospital Foundation will hold its 16th annual Wine Auction gala on Saturday, Oct. 22, to raise money for bedside monitors that will provide education, information and entertainment options to inpatients. The bedside monitors, consisting of a monitor and keyboard, will be attached to the patient's hospital bed. Regions is among the first hospital's in the U.S. to offer this service to patients.
The bedside monitors are expected to increase patient satisfaction and improve safety by offering patients educational videos with need-to-know information prior to discharge, information about their care team, the ability to complete satisfaction surveys while their hospital experience is fresh in their minds and general hospital information. The bedside monitors will also offer Internet access, movies-on-demand, cable TV and games.
"We view this new tool at Regions as an opportunity to empower patients with more information and to support patients with additional vehicles for relaxation and communication," says Judy Moseley, vice president of patient care services. "Today's patients expect great medical care and they're going to look for hospitals that address patient comfort and customer service."
With nearly 800 people expected to attend the gala event, the Foundation goal is to raise $500,000 for the bedside monitors at the Wine Auction; each unit costs about $10,000. The first bedside monitors will be installed in first quarter 2006.
