Regions Hospital Burn Center covers meth use, child abuse, sexuality and survival at 18th Annual Burn Conference
Conference held Friday, Feb. 17 at Hilton Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport
St. Paul, Minn., - Regions Hospital burn experts provide insight into a wide range of topics as they relate to the burn patient. The following presentations are open to media on Friday, Feb. 17.
A dad's perspective: two daughters and burn trauma. The father of two little girls who are the sole survivors of a northern Minnesota plane crash that took the lives of their mother and uncle will talk about the girls' burn recovery process. This presentation takes place at 11:30 a.m.
Chemical burns. A leading burn physician will describe the common causes and treatments, including surgical management, for chemical burns that occur from household items such as acid, bleach and drain cleaner. This presentation takes place at 1:15 p.m.
Child abuse and the burn unit. A pediatric trauma physician shares how patterns of abuse manifested by burns are identified. This presentation takes place at 1:45 p.m.
Issues and emergencies in meth-related incidents. An emergency medicine nurse and paramedic and a police officer paramedic, specializing in meth-related drug investigations, will outline the hazards and challenges they see when responding to meth-related burn injuries. This presentation takes place at 2:30 p.m.
Sex and the burn survivor. Burn center staff, including a burn survivor, discuss sex: sharing burn survivors desires to feel sexual, have a sex drive and long for intimacy. This presentation takes place at 3:30 p.m.
