  | Nurse Intern Program
The Regions Nurse Intern program is a 10-week program offered during the summer for nursing students entering their senior year. This program offers nursing students the opportunity to enhance their skills as they prepare to become Registered Nurses. Nurse Interns work with one designated RN preceptor during the program. In addition the Nurse Interns are given the option to shadow in other departments, for example spending a day in the Cardiac cath lab, behavioral health or the operating room.
"Being a nurse intern on a surgical unit was a great experience that helped me gain confidence and make the transition from student nurse to staff nurse. I learned so much and was able to see different areas of the hospital. I worked with the same nurse preceptor (Jennifer) during my internship; Jennifer tailored the experience to meet my needs and interests. When I graduated from nursing school I was excited to start my first job on the same surgical floor! It was nice because I knew some of the staff and I was familiar with the routine of the unit. Now I am a nurse preceptor, and I'm excited to contribute the same valuable experiences to future RN's and new RN's. I would recommend an internship at Regions to anyone pursing a career in nursing."
According to her nurse preceptor, Jennifer: "Kristen worked with me as a nurse intern two years ago, and it was great! She bonded with everyone on our floor and is now a nurse with us!"
Jennifer RN and Kristen RN are good friends and co-workers on friends on 5E Surgical Unit. In late 2007 Kristen took a nursing position on the Regions burn unit.
The 2006 summer nurse intern program consisted of 19 nurse interns and 19 dedicated nurse preceptors. The 10-week program concluded with a reception for all participants.
