New Nurse Orientation Central Nursing Orientation/Unit Orientation As new nursing staff begin their careers at Regions Hospital, they participate in a combination of classroom and unit orientation. While in classroom orientation, they complete generalized instruction in hospital policies and protocols related to nursing, the hospital computer charting system (EPIC) and BLS/CPR. Experienced Nurse and HUC orientees participate in the completion of the Performance Based Development System (PBDS) Assessment. The results of this assessment are used by the units clinical educator and the primary preceptor to customize the unit orientation. After completion of classroom phase, orientees work with their primary preceptor for a unit-based orientation. New Grad Program for Nurses The transition from school to career can cause many new graduates anxiety. However, at Regions Hospital, we do our best to make you feel comfortable in your new position. After completing Central Nursing Orientation and beginning orientation on your assigned unit with your Primary Preceptor, you will reconvene with fellow new grads to develop your skills in practical areas such as prioritizing and time management, delegation and clinical skill reviews. These three days of class allow you to share your orientation experiences with other new grads and gain confidence in your role as a new nurse. All new graduate nurses will also be partnered with an experienced mentor who will be available for guidance and support throughout the orientation experience. Critical Care Program The Regions Hospital Critical Care Program allows those who are interested in becoming critical care nurses the opportunity to sharpen skills in a variety of classroom experiences. Class days are designed to not only train nurses to find success in the fast-paced environment of a critical care unit, but to develop confidence in their nursing skills. This program, offered four times a year, consists of introductory critical care courses, offered by Twin Cities Healthcare Professionals www.tchpeducation.com , interspersed with a variety of clinical skills days.
