Post Coronary Care Unit (PCCU)

Nurses in the PCCU care for both cardiac and medicine patients requiring cardiac monitoring. Patients on this unit are acutely ill adult and geriatric patients in need of closer observation than a general patient care unit. Patients often include those with complex medical problems, those awaiting cardiac surgery and those who may have cardiac disease problems. The PCCU has 24 beds; six of these beds make up the catheterization lab interventional unit (CLIU) for patients who have undergone cath lab procedures and require overnight care.

All nurses in the PCCU are trained in telemetry through EKG interpretation, and all are ACLS certified with the American Heart Association. Nurses working in the CLIU must have completed competencies for pulling sheaths from patients admitted to the unit from interventional cardiology.
