 | Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU)
Nurses on this fast paced 18-bed intensive level 1 trauma care unit deliver highly skilled care to acutely ill adolescent, adult and geriatric patients who have critical care needs due to traumatic injuries or unstable post-operative surgical patients. The nurses work closely with a variety of direct caregivers, including physician residents, to provide care for these complex and challenging patients. Patients are admitted through the Regions Hospital Emergency Center, the operating room, from units throughout the hospital or from other hospitals and clinics. Patients have an average length of stay of three days in the SICU.
All SICU nurses are ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) and TNCC (Trauma Nurse Core Course) certified. ICU nurses are also strongly encouraged and supported to pursue the AACN's (American Association of Critical Care nurses) CCRN certification.
