Nurses on this 18-bed surgery unit deliver care for acutely ill adult and geriatric patients who require post surgical care. The majority of patients on this unit have undergone gynecology, urology, ENT and general surgeries, though some patients are admitted due to general medical problems. Nurses care for patients in various stages of their illness from admission through discharge.
The nurses on this unit work with patients using a holistic approach. In addition to routine medical and surgical care, the units nurses offer their patients specialized therapies, including aroma-, relaxation and music therapies, to help patients with their recovery process. In addition, staff members work with the new complementary care team whose trained therapists are available to provide five types of therapies (massage, music, Reiki, healing touch and guided imagery) to patients experiencing chronic pain, post-operative pain and anxiety.
