Orthopedics (9 South and 9 East)

In 2006, Regions combined two units to help meet the needs of a growing number of orthopedics patients. The new 36-bed orthopedics unit delivers care to acutely ill adult and geriatric patients with orthopedic problems and total joint replacement patients, including hips, knees and shoulders. The patients on this floor are regularly seen by physical therapists as well. The nurses participate in pre-operative education classes for total joint replacement patients. The nurses are also trained to use specialized equipment that aide the patient's recovery. This includes CPM (continuous passive motion) devices, traction, pain pumps and more.

Nurses on this unit may also work with selected overflow patients, infected orthopedic cases, orthopedic trauma patients, radiation implant patients (nurses receive annual training for this specialized area) and detention patients.
