Regions Hospital nurse instated as AACN president
ST. PAUL, Minn. - Regions Hospital critical care nurse manager, Diane Aho, R.N., recently began her tenure as the president of the Greater Twin Cities Chapter of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). The AACN is the world's largest specialty nursing organization with 65,000 members who represent the interests of nurses who care for critically and acutely ill patients.

The greater Twin Cities chapter includes approximately 200 nurses from most of the major metropolitan hospitals. The chapter will focus on the priorities identified by the national organization: meeting the needs of patients and family, and improving the safety and reliability in a critical care environment. As the current president and former president-elect, Aho also plans to promote certification for local critical care nurses. "Research has shown that having nurses certified in critical care results in better patient outcomes," said Aho.

In addition to Aho, three of the 13 board members are Regions Hospital nurses. They are: Pam Triplett, R.N., clinical educator; Jeanne Thompson, R.N., emergency department nurse; and Mary Steding, R.N., nurse educator.

Regions Hospital is a Level I trauma center and teaching hospital serving Minnesota and western Wisconsin for more than 130 years. Regions is a private hospital providing outstanding care in women's health, heart, cancer, surgery, orthopedics, neuroscience, burn, emergency care and more. Regions is part of the HealthPartners family of care. Additional information is available at regionshospital.com.
