  | Diagnosis
Our staff may need to perform some tests to further diagnose your condition, determine the stage of the disease and determine appropriate treatment. Our program uses the latest in medical science and technology to assess your condition.
Some of our diagnostic tests include:
Biopsy:
The removal of a sample of tissue for examination under a microscope to check for cancer cells. The physical exam, x-rays, imaging and lab tests can show that something abnormal exists, but the biopsy is the only sure way to determine whether the abnormality is cancer.
Laboratory tests:
Blood tests, urinalysis and spinal fluid samples are used to assist with the diagnosis.
X-ray:
Used for making images of certain areas of the body that help diagnose diseases.
Scans:
Detailed pictures of areas inside the body created by a computer from multiple x-ray images. It shows some soft tissue and other structures that cannot be seen with conventional x-rays.
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI):
This test is used to create images of areas inside the body. The images are very detailed and can detect even small changes of structure within the body.
PET (positron emission tomography) scan:
This highly specialized imaging technique produces three-dimensional colored images. PET scanning provides body chemistry information not available through other procedures. It is used to detect and grade tumors.
Bone marrow biopsy:
The removal of a small tissue sample of bone marrow with a needle. The sample is examined to determined if cancer cells are present.
