 | Meet some of our OR RN's
Daniel has been a Regions OR nurse for more than 20 years his main focus has been orthopedic surgeries, but is now in charge of education for the operating room. Daniel appreciates many things about working in the OR, particularly the challenges, technology, opportunities and complex patients. Co-workers have an immense impact on job satisfaction; Daniel speaks very highly of the interdisciplinary team he works with "Our team is like a small and close community, we are here for each other."
Jane originally obtained a degree in education, a few years later she decided to pursue nursing, she has been at Regions for over 22 years! Jane appreciates the career opportunities the OR has offered her. "Working in the operating room is fascinating, there is always something new to learn." After working as an OR nurse, she later became a manager and most recently has taken a position in the OR working on quality care and the expansion work of adding 5 more OR suites.
Tanya started on a medical unit at Regions. In 1996 she transferred to the OR after completing a peri-operative nursing course. Although the learning curve 'was very steep' Tanya feels the transition went very well. "The biggest difference was realizing that sterile technique on the floor is so very different from sterile technique in the OR!" Tanya particularly enjoys cardiac surgery and has completed specialized training that allows her to work with the DaVinci Robot (pictured with Tanya), "Its amazing to watch a surgery happening and realize that none of us are touching the patient."
"OR nurses are the patients advocate at all times, we are the eyes and ears of the patient while they are in our care." Greg joined Regions OR in 1991; he is now the team lead for the urology, trauma and burn surgical teams. He appreciates the opportunities and endless education that is available to him. Greg recognizes his coworkers as one of the main reasons he sincerely enjoys his job so much, "We work in a respectful, progressive and fun environment."
