Types of Injuries and Illnesses
We care for a variety of medical problems in our Emergency Center, from broken bones to complex injuries and illnesses. Some of the common symptoms that indicate a possible medical emergency include:
- breathing difficulties
- constant pain
- deep cuts or abrasions
- possible broken bones
- severe depression
- out-of-control behavior
- stroke symptoms, such as slurred speech, severe headaches or weakness in one side of the body
- other serious injuries or illnesses
If you are experiencing a life-threatening injury or illness, please call 911.
Evaluating Your Condition
We are committed to providing you with efficient, quality care. When you arrive, your first contact will be with a nurse at the main desk. The nurse will determine the nature of your illness based on your symptoms and history.
If your condition is critical, you will receive care immediately.
If your condition is not critical:
- You may be asked to wait until the triage nurse is available to discuss your medical condition in more detail.
- You will be taken to the appropriate room as soon as possible to treat your condition based on the severity of your injury or illness compared to other patients needing care.
Waiting and Support Area
We have a comfortable, family-friendly waiting area with televisions and magazines available. Our patient service representatives have crayons and paper for children. There are also vending machines available nearby.
Regions Hospital also has private family rooms where physicians can talk with family and other loved ones about a patient's condition. Our Crisis Program is available to families 24 hours a day to help cope with the stress of an injury or illness. The Emergency Center patient representatives or nurse can assist families in contacting the Crisis Program.
Visitors
To help provide the best care possible, we ask that only one visitor at a time join you in the examination room. At times, it may be necessary to limit the amount of visitors.
Patient representatives, located at the Emergency Centers front desk, can give updates on a patient's condition to visitors. If a patient representative is not available, the nurse at the check-in desk will assist you.
If You Have Questions
We want to ensure that your rights as a patient are respected. If anything is unclear or confusing to you, a patient representative can help you resolve your questions or address special needs. An Emergency Center patient representative is available 3-9 p.m. on Fridays and 3-11 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. To speak with a patient representative, please call (651) 254-5000. If a patient service representative is not available, the nurse at the check-in desk will assist you.
