Watsu® Watsu® is a form of water shiatsu, that is helpful in relieving pain, improving mobility and promoting relaxation. During a treatment session, the therapist holds you in the water and passively moves you through gentle, slow, rhythmic patterns. This relaxing movement and the support provided by the water and the therapist, reduces the body's rigidity and tightness. This allows the body to "let go" and open its energy channels to improve function and circulation. The body is massaged and tissue manipulated to decrease blockage and break up muscle tension and tightness. Acupressure massage may also be used to improve the energy flow within your body. We can teach you these techniques so you can use them at home to better manage the pain you may have. Would Watsu® be good for me? This unique program may be helpful if you would like to improve your energy level, flexibility, relaxation, posture or sleep. It also can help you decrease stress and pain. It has been very successful for people with chronic pain or fatigue, fibromyalgia, chronic headaches, soft tissue injuries, stress-related disorders, back pain, neck pain and multiple-site pain. Do I need to know how to swim? You do not have to know how to swim. At your first visit your therapist will orient you to the pool and discuss your comfort level in the water. She will be with you at all times. Your sessions will be about 30 minutes. What do I need to get started? Watsu® is often done following the exercise portion of a pool therapy session, but can also be a treatment by itself. When Watsu® is done alone, the cost is not covered by insurance. The current fee is $40 for a 30-minute session. If you have any questions, please call us at (651) 254-4797. |
