Care
Regions continues to build on a strong track record of reducing barriers and expanding access to care.
Caring for uninsured and underinsured patients
- Second largest provider of charity care in Minnesota, helping more than 43,000 patients.
- Invests more than $1 million a year to help nearly 3,000 low income patients enroll in government programs.
- Part of The EBAN ExperienceTM, a collaborative project of HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education, Mixed Blood Theatre, Twin Cities Public Television, Rainbow Research and the communities we serve. EBAN projects include increasing immunization rates in children from East Africa, increasing colorectal and breast cancer screening in communities of color and decreasing readmission rates for minority and limited-English-proficient patients.
Reducing health disparities
- Support for community partners such as West Side Community Clinic and Portico Healthnet.
- Nearly 90 licensed staff interpreters remove language barriers to care at Regions Hospital and four HealthPartners Clinics.
- One of eight hospitals nationwide participating in Robert Wood Johnson's Equity Quality Improvement Collaborative to reduce disparities in heart care.
Meeting a critical need for mental health services in the East Metro area and western Wisconsin
- $36 million for a new, 100-bed mental health facility with private rooms
- $1.3 million for behavioral health crisis services in the emergency department
- Support for Hovander House, a short-term residential facility to help patients transition to living in the community

Health & safety
As one of only three Minnesota hospitals that is a Level I Trauma Center for both adults and children, Regions plays a critical role in a statewide system that stands ready 24/7 to respond to emergencies and protect public health and safety.
Emergency control center for community
The Medical Resource Control Center, located in Regions Hospital, relays information to EMS providers on the fastest way to get patients to a hospital in the East Metro area and Western Wisconsin.
Decontamination unit
In the event of a biological, chemical or nuclear incident Regions can decontaminate up to 150 people per hour.
Air medical transport
Regions is a member of Life Link III, a mobile critical care transport service for the most severely injured trauma patients.

Education & research
Minnesota's national reputation for high-quality care and health care innovation is due in large part to the excellent medical education and research in our state. Regions' investment in these areas helps maintain Minnesota's status as a leader of care and innovation.
Training future doctors
Regions and the HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education (IME) partner with the University of Minnesota medical school to train almost 500 resident physicians in 19 medical specialties to serve in the Twin Cities and rural hospitals in Greater Minnesota and Western Wisconsin.
Training emergency responders
Regions Hospital Emergency Medical Services provides more than 400 basic and advanced courses for nurses, physicians and other health professionals as well as CPR, AED.
Groundbreaking medical research
Regions Hospital emergency medical resources helped lead a national study involving a glucose-insulin-potassium, "GIK", solution for patients experiencing symptoms such as chest pains. The study, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association, found that giving patients the inexpensive medication in the ambulance cut heart attack deaths in half.
