Ancker School of Nursing memorial scholarship

Since 1992, the Regions nursing department has offered scholarships to employees who are pursuing their associate’s, bachelor’s, master’s or doctoral degrees in nursing. The scholarship is named after Gloria Fox, a respected and exceptional Regions SICU registered nurse who died suddenly in 1990. 99 scholarships have been awarded since it was founded.

Meet some of the scholarship recipients

Regions Hospital - For Nurses - Denise Teuber

Denise Teuber RN, Surgical Intensive Care Unit

Denise has held many roles in our SICU; charge nurse, preceptor, clinical educator and currently clinical nurse supervisor. She does not view nursing as a job or a profession, but states it is her passion and calling. Denise is pursuing her MSN with a focus in nursing leadership, ultimately she would like to become a nurse manager on an acute care unit or a leader in patient safety or quality. Peers describe her as the epitome of a kind and compassionate nurse.

Regions Hospital - For Nurses - Maikou Yang

Maikou Yang HUC, Inpatient Rehab

Shortly after Maikou graduated from college with a degree in kinesiology her father became ill. “The moment I knew I was going back to school to become a nurse was when I met one of my father’s nurses; she was caring, patient, dedicated, she showed empathy, sympathy and cried alongside us.” Maikou will graduate with a in August of 2015.

Kara Adams RN, Labor and Delivery

Kara has been a RN in the Regions Birth Center since 1996 and is now the day charge nurse. In addition she has completed her certification in Inpatient Obstetrics. Kara is passionate about working at Regions, “I cannot imagine working for a better organization. The teamwork, camaraderie, leadership, diverse patient population and support we have unbelievable. I have gained both personal and professional relationships that I will treasure forever.” Kara is completing her BSN at St Catherine’s University.
