Surgery for breast cancer

Women diagnosed with a breast tumor have several surgical options. Breast reconstruction may also be done at the same time.

Lumpectomy

Also called partial mastectomy or breast conservation, this surgery removes only the breast lump and a margin of normal tissue. A lumpectomy may be followed by chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy.

Mastectomy

Surgery to remove the entire breast. All of the breast tissue is removed, sometimes along with other nearby tissues.

Our highly skilled plastic and reconstructive surgeons are available to meet all of your breast health needs, including cosmetic, reconstructive and breast reduction services.

Women who undergo a mastectomy have a full range of breast reconstruction services available. Our plastic surgeons may perform breast reconstruction at the time of the mastectomy or offer reconstruction several years after a mastectomy has been performed.
