Breast Health Center
Your peace of mind comes first
Peace of mind is important to your care, and getting test results quickly can help put you at ease. At Regions Breast Health Center, you can have all your tests done the same day, and if needed, see a doctor when you come in for a diagnostic or other-than-routine screening.
At Regions we treat you as a whole person, not simply a disease or condition, and you’ll experience "continuity of care." That means in addition to the most advanced testing and treatments, you’ll also get help from prevention, education and support programs.

Imaging
Regular breast exams and accurate imaging are important to breast health, so we make it easy for you. To make an appointment for a mammogram, just call the Regions Hospital Breast Health Center at 651-254-4600. Or simply stop by in person and ask for a screening mammogram. Many patients are referred by their primary physician.
The Breast Health Center offers 100% digital mammography. It’s better at detecting cancer in dense and very dense breasts, and it has a lower x-ray dose than traditional film-screen mammography. We are a leader in using digital technology. Right now, 90% of mammography units nationwide still use film-screen images! Here are the exams we offer.
Screening mammography – checks for changes in the breast and helps diagnose breast cancer and other conditions. 2D mammography takes digital pictures of the breast. It's the current standard for breast imaging and is used at all HealthPartners mammography locations. 3D mammography/tomosynthesis takes 3D images of the breast. 3D images give a better view of the size, shape and location of any areas of concern. 3D imaging is currently only available at Regions Hospital Breast Health Center sites. More information about 2D mammography, 3D mammography, and what to expect during your mammogram can be found here: Mammography Screening Services.
Diagnostic mammography – looks more closely at a specific area. Lumps, nipple discharge, thickening of the nipple, or other abnormalities found in a screening.
Breast ultrasound – used to tell the difference between a solid lesion, which could be cancerous, and a fluid-filled cyst, something that’s non-cancerous.
Breast MRI – used to screen patients at high risk for breast cancer, including those with a family history of breast cancer or who have received radiation to the chest. It’s also useful in finding out the stages of breast cancer, treatment options and patient follow-up after treatment.

Diagnostic testing
If your doctor has any concerns after seeing your breast imaging, he/she may recommend more diagnostic tests. The vast majority of these tests find noncancerous results, but it is important for you to have them. The Breast Health Center has the latest diagnostic tools, including:
Ductography – injection of radio-opaque material into a breast duct to test a breast discharge.
Cyst aspiration – procedure to obtain fluid using a small needle.
Needle core breast biopsy – procedure to get a core sample of tissue using a hollow needle. May be stereotactic, MRI or ultrasound-guided.
Needle localization – uses a thin wire to guide a surgeon to an abnormality in the breast.
