It is estimated that 5-10% of cancers are genetic or inherited. Cancer genetic counseling involves obtaining a personal and family history of cancer to identify families at high risk. The goal of cancer risk assessment is to provide families with personalized guidelines for cancer screening, risk reduction and genetic testing. Often, the earlier cancer is detected, the better the success rates are for treatment.
Appointments with our cancer genetics counselor can be made to discuss hereditary cancer, genetic testing options, cancer surveillance guidelines and risk reduction. Referrals from your primary care physician are preferred.
