Sexual assault information for medical providers and legal professionals
For medical providers
If your patient wants evidence collection AND it has been under 120 hours (5 days), send him/her to Regions Hospital Emergency Center.
If your patient just wants medical care but no evidence collection, you can provide that care or refer him/her to the nearest Emergency Center.
For the latest guidelines on management of exposure to sexually transmitted infections, please consult the Centers for Disease Control.
The priorities are to address emotional trauma, look for and treat injuries, offer medications to prevent infection and pregnancy, and give resources for after care.
