Fibromyalgia

What is fibromyalgia?

Fibromyalgia is a long-lasting, all-over muscle and bone pain that makes it hard for people to go about their daily living. Sleep, activity level and ability to move can be limited due to lasting pain and being tired.

Physical therapy treatment will include:

  • Posture education
  • Manual therapy
  • Gentle strengthening
  • Exercises for basic heart fitness

Benefits of therapy

Physical therapy can help to manage fibromyalgia. A physical therapist will work with you on a home exercise program to lessen pain and increase movement.

Access to Regions Hospital physical therapy programs

A referral from your physician is required to be seen by one of the physical therapists who specialize in fibromyalgia management. If you think you would benefit from physical therapy, ask your physician for a referral.
