Pool therapy

For people who live with neurological, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and other disorders, everyday movement may be difficult or painful. The Regions Hospital Therapeutic Pool can improve your movement and quality of life.

The Therapy Pool program offers physical therapy, adapted aquatics and fitness programs that increase strength, mobility, balance and conditioning in a decreased pain environment. The warmth, buoyancy and gentle support of the water offers an excellent environment for pain relief and exercise. The Aquatic Therapy Team, which is made up of physical therapists and physical therapist assistants, will provide you with unique knowledge and experience.

The Regions Hospital Therapy Pool is a shallow pool with an average temperature of 93 degrees. It is wheelchair accessible and offers equipment for flotation, resistance and body positioning. Please bring a bathing suit or shorts, a dark colored t-shirt (no cut-offs) and towel for all appointments. Locker rooms are available, as are private two-person changing rooms for patients who need assistance. If you have special dressing needs, please bring someone to assist you.

After your program is completed, there are many options for continued exercise and healing:

  • Open pool
  • Independent exercise sessions

Referrals/insurance

A referral is required to be seen in the therapy pool. Referrals are accepted from all physicians and can be mailed or faxed to the pool therapy department at 651-254-2964. Regions Hospital pool therapy is covered by most insurance policies. You should confirm coverage prior to setting up an appointment. Community classes and open pool are not covered by insurance.

After you have obtained a referral, call us at 651-254-4797 to schedule an appointment for an initial evaluation.

The pool is located on the first floor of the Regions Hospital north building, to the immediate right of the north elevators. Parking is available in the patient/visitor ramps and can be validated for a discounted rate. Valet parking and wheelchair escorts are available at the main and west entrances of the hospital.
