Our Minimum Requirements for Volunteers:

Age: Volunteers must be 15 years of age or older at time of application.

Minimum Time Commitment:

  • Non-Summer Programs: Due to pre-screening and training, we respectfully ask for a 6-month commitment for non-summer programs.  Shift times and lengths vary depending on your preferences and availability.  Most shifts are two to four hours in length and can be flexible to work with your schedule.
  • Summer Programs: Summer programs require a ten week commitment during the summer months.  Shift times and lengths vary depending on your preferences and availability.  Most shifts are two to four hours in length and can be flexible to work with your schedule.

Not sure if volunteering will fit with your schedule?  Depending on the department in which you are placed, there are two different options for scheduling to best fit your needs.

  • Weekly Scheduling: Work with Volunteer Services to set up a scheduled shift for your volunteer work that is the same day and time each week.
  • Flexible Scheduling: Some of our departments offer the opportunity to do flexible scheduling.  Volunteers pick their days and times based on their schedule and sign up for shifts online.

Getting Started:

Ready to get started becoming part of our volunteer team here at Regions Hospital and HealthPartners?  Great!  The steps below outline our process for getting started as a volunteer.  It generally takes 3-4 weeks to complete the process, so we encourage applicants to begin the process a month before they plan to start.

We are currently accepting applications for our Regions Hospital and HealthPartners Clinic Programs for applicants interested in our longer term commitment programs (six months or more). If you are interested in our either of these programs and would like to complete the application, please click here! The application usually takes 10-15 minutes to complete and will ask for contact information, as well as your motivation for volunteer and program preferences.

After review of your application, you will be contacted to schedule an interview. We use the interview time to get to know you a little better and explore talents and interests to create the best fit experience for both you and the organization. We kindly request that you bring the following completed documents with you to your interview:

For those accepted into the program after the interview, completion of the required online orientation and supplemental materials is the next step.  Instructions and materials for completing the online orientation will be given to applicants selected for the program.

As part of the process, Regions Hospital and HealthPartners Clinics will conduct the following screenings on all prospective volunteers. These screenings are in place to protect the health and safety of our patients, guests, staff and volunteers.

  • Regions Hospital and HealthPartners Specialty Centers:
    • State of Minnesota Background Check
    • Health Screening with Employee Health and Wellness (applicants will need to be prepared to bring their most recent immunization/vaccination record)
    • TST (Tuberculosis) Screening
  • HealthPartners Clinics:

    • State of Minnesota Background Check
    • TST (Tuberculosis) Screening

Hospital Training: Upon completion of the above steps, volunteers will be scheduled for department specific training with a staff member. In addition, an annual re-education session and annual TST (tuberculosis) screening is required.
