A range of treatments for controlling irregular heartbeat
Cardiac catheter ablation can be an amazing cure for patients who have cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heartbeat). During an ablation, tiny flexible catheters are threaded through the vascular system and into the heart, where the cardiologist finds the area that’s creating the arrhythmia and fixes it with a burst of energy through the catheter. This usually eliminates the arrhythmia and allows the patient to stop taking the medications for treating it. This procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis using a tiny needle puncture. Recovery time is usually very short.
Physicians in our electrophysiology department specialize in diagnosing and treating cardiac arrhythmias and in managing implantable antiarrhythmic devices. The team is highly skilled at mapping and removing arrhythmias such as atrial flutter, atrial fibrillation, supraventricular tachycardia and ventricular tachycardia. When necessary, they implant pacemakers, defibrillators, loop monitors or cardiac resynchronization devices. Then we follow these patients in our specialized device clinic.
