I was drawn to emergency medicine because I enjoy the wide variety of patients with a very diverse set of pathologies that I have the privilege to care for every day. I am board certified in both Emergency Medicine and Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and I currently spend half my time treating patients in the emergency department and half my time providing medical direction to EMS services throughout the East Metro and Western Wisconsin. I also teach residents and medical students in my role as an Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine at the University of Minnesota College of Medicine.

My passion for EMS stems from my belief that critical care begins in the streets. In order for patients to benefit from the skills of our hospital-based physicians, they must first receive state-of-the-art medical care in the ambulance before they arrive at the hospital. I believe that having an active physician presence in the pre-hospital phase of patient care is vital for ensuring good outcomes for patients. Blending my medical practice between the pre-hospital and in-hospital phases of patient care gives me the opportunity to facilitate the transition in care between these two distinct areas. I find this to be very rewarding.

In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor activities including cross country skiing, fishing, canoeing and biking.

I am a member of the following professional associations:
* National Association of EMS Physicians (NAEMSP)
* American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP)
* American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM)
* Minnesota Medical Association (MMA)
