Leading neuroscience care for brain, spine and neurologic conditions

If an illness or injury affects your brain, spine or nervous system, you deserve the best neurological care. Whether you have suffered a stroke or need help managing a neurological disorder, having a dedicated care team on your side can make all the difference in the world. The neurologists, neurosurgeons and physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) experts at Regions provide the highest quality of care for a wide range of neurological conditions and trauma.

As part of Regions Hospital and the larger HealthPartners care system, we collaborate across specialties to provide comprehensive neuroscience care. When time is of the essence, we’re one of the only Level I Trauma Centers in the metro area that can care for even the most severe traumatic brain and spine injuries. We also coordinate care with rehabilitation, pain management and other specialties so every doctor on your team is on the same page when it comes to your treatment.

Whether you need neurosurgery, help managing a chronic condition, or support during recovery, we can help you live a healthy, fulfilling life. Our neuroscience team also performs ongoing neuroscience research and clinical trials to improve the neurological care we provide for patients. No matter what brings you here, we can help.

Neurologic trauma and conditions we treat

We treat a wide variety of neurologic conditions, including:

The latest in neuroscience treatments

HealthPartners and Regions Hospital have partnered to build award-winning inpatient and outpatient programs for stroke, Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, Parkinson’s, and brain and spine tumors. We also work closely with spine experts from TRIA to offer the latest in spine care. From your first appointment with our team of specialists throughout your treatment, you’ll receive the best possible care.

And because we’re part of the larger HealthPartners system of care, we’ll guide you through diagnosis, testing and any follow-up care you may need.

Leading neurology care

The nervous system is the command center of your body. It tells your body exactly what to do and when to do it. Neurology is the medical specialty that focuses on diagnosing and treating any condition that affects your brain, spinal cord and nerves. Our neurologists can help with a wide range of neurological disorders, including epilepsy, seizures, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and more.

Our neurologists will work with you to create a personalized neurology treatment plan based on your symptoms and unique needs. Depending on your condition, this treatment plan may include a combination of medicine, surgical interventions and other therapies.

Award-winning stroke care

Regions Hospital was the first comprehensive stroke center certified by the Joint Commission in Minnesota, and our commitment to providing exceptional care continues today. Our team of experts can care for all levels of stroke, from the minor to the most severe. Our 24/7 stroke response team is there whenever the unexpected happens to care for you as quickly as possible.

We’ll be by your side during stroke recovery, too. Regions has an inpatient stroke rehabilitation program staffed with experts who specialize in caring for people recovering from strokes. We also offer stroke support groups for survivors and caregivers through Stroke INSPIRE.

Neurocritical care for complex conditions

For complex or severe neurological disorders, we have a dedicated Neurologic Critical Care Unit. Here we provide life-saving care to our patients by bringing our experts and specialty equipment together in one unit.

Patients in the Neurologic Critical Care Unit get around-the-clock care and observation. It might be the right place for patients recovering from a range of complex neurological conditions, including acute ischemic stroke, brain hemorrhages or traumatic brain injuries. Our neurointensivists have the skills and experience to provide timely assessment and treatment, ensuring the best possible outcomes.

Neurosurgery

Neurosurgery can be the best course of treatment for a variety of conditions that affect the brain, spine, spinal column and peripheral nerves. We use neurosurgery to treat brain and spine tumors, brain aneurysms, strokes and traumatic injuries.

We understand that the thought of surgery can feel overwhelming, and our doctors will make sure that you’re fully prepared for surgery. Plus, our doctors will only recommend neurosurgery if it is the most effective course of treatment for your condition.

Our neurosurgeons set the standard of high-quality care in the Midwest. We undergo extensive training in order to achieve exceptional outcomes for our patients.

Neurologic trauma care

Neurologic trauma is a sudden injury that damages the brain, nerves or spine. As part of the Regions Hospital Level I Trauma Center, we’re the only location in the Twin Cities east metro that has the expertise to treat even the most severe neurologic trauma. Our team treats all types of cranial and spine trauma, including traumatic brain injuries (TBI), skull fractures and spinal cord injuries.

We use the latest treatments and techniques to manage neurotrauma, including neurosurgery. And because our team works closely with specialists throughout Regions Hospital and the HealthPartners system of care, we continue to support patients throughout their recovery.

Specialized neurology care for brain and spinal tumors

The neuroscience team at Regions takes a comprehensive approach to treating brain and spinal tumors. With close collaboration across specialties, the latest neurology treatments and a care team focused on you, you’ll get the best possible care.

Experts from neurosurgery, neuro-oncology, radiation, pharmacy, rehabilitation, nursing and nutrition all work together to coordinate care and determine the best neurology treatment options. In addition to regular communication across your care team, our nurse navigators will guide you through every step of your care, so you know exactly what to expect.

Physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R)

While recovering from neurologic trauma or a neurological condition, physical medicine and rehabilitation can help you improve mobility, your body’s function and motor skills. We use a combination of techniques, including physical, occupational and speech therapy, to help you with activities of daily living (ADLs).

The rehabilitation care provided at Regions Hospital leads the industry in our quality of care. When you work with our team, your recovery goals become our goals. We’ll personalize your treatment plan to help you move with confidence and get back to the things you love.

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) and spinal cord injury (SCI) recovery

The Regions Hospital neuroscience team is uniquely qualified to care for patients recovering from a TBI or SCI. We’re one of only 18 Spinal Cord Injury Model Systems in the entire country, and we have a rehabilitation program with specialty certification for spinal cord injury, stroke and brain injury. We earned this certification through our strict quality standards and our commitment to patient care.

For continued support, we offer a virtual traumatic brain injury support group for people recovering from a traumatic brain injury and their caregivers. Here, participants can share their experiences, make connections, and learn more about resources and recovery.

Neuroscience research and clinical trials

Our team of neuroscience experts are hard at work researching ways to improve the neuroscience care we provide for our patients. We have several ongoing research projects at the Neuroscience Research Center within the HealthPartners Institute. This includes a variety of clinical trials that provide hope and unique treatment options to patients who feel they have tried everything.

If you would like to know more about research projects and clinical trials that you may be eligible for, talk with your care team.
